Learn how to Meditate and bring Mindfulness into your daily life

You will learn simple, practical techniques that you can use in any situation to bring calm and balance to your mind.

At the beginning we will explore simple stretching and yoga exercises that loosen the body up making it easier to sit in meditation for longer periods of time. Visit My Yoga Teacher website and gather your favorite workouts to do at home to stay fit.

You will learn how to use cushions and supports to help you get the correct meditation posture while keeping your back straight and spine aligned.

As your meditation develops you will start to discover what is happening at the deepest levels of your mind and how you can begin to break your repetitive patterns of negative thought and emotional disturbance.

During the course you will learn the technique of Anapana breath meditation

We will be developing the quality of equanimity, allowing everything to be exactly as it is without trying to change it.

We will explore ways to bring meditation and mindfulness into your everyday life.

Meditative Yoga can be used to enhance concentration, help to cultivate a sense of well-being, as well as significantly reduce stress.
Gradually, through practice, you learn to creatively respond to yourself and the world as opposed to habitually reacting to it.

What is Meditative Yoga?

Yoga has traditionally always been a preparation for meditation. Only in the past 3o years have the two disciplines become separated with many yoga practitioners only concentrating on their physical exercises and many meditators ignoring the needs and mechanics of their physical body, if you want to do this type of yoga, getting the right outfit is necessary like the best high waist yoga pants which are perfect for this. Meditative yoga is gentle way to prepare the body for meditation and to learn about the interconnected nature or your mind, body, emotions and breath.

This kind of yoga is suitable for everyone young and old, no matter how stiff or inflexible you may be.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

Q. I have never meditated or practiced yoga before, is this suitable for beginners?

A. Yes, this course will give you a comprehensive introduction to meditative yoga and no previous experience is necessary. Ian teaches in a progressive step by step way based on direct experience and practice.

Q. I have practiced meditation for many years do you think I can still benefit.

A. Giving yourself a day entirely devoted to meditation can deepen and strengthen your existing practice or help you re-establish a practice that has weakened over time due to neglect due to your busy life. Most of the time will be spent in silence and you are free to ask any questions related to your practice. We start each meditation with a beginners mind. Often when you have a regular practice it may become stale or mechanical. This course will help you bring life and energy back to your practice again.

Q. Is this meditation tied to any particular religion or tradition?

A. The technique of Anapana meditation originates from the Buddhist tradition but is a universal technique that can be practiced by anyone no matter what religion or belief you may have. We will be using the breath as our object of concentration and observing reality as it actually is, free from any ideas, beliefs or dogma. We will develop the qualities of love and compassion towards ourselves and towards others.

Q. I suffer from backache and and find it very difficult to sit on the floor can I still attend.

A. Yes, it’s not compulsory to sit on the floor to learn meditation. You will learn how to sit using supports like a backrest, meditation bench or chair so you can find a comfortable posture that suits you while still maintaining an erect spine.

Q. I find it impossible to concentrate for any length of time will this cause a problem for me.

A. Accepting that your mind has a tendency to wander and not reacting to this is the first step. Concentration is a quality that develops over time. Once you understand the true nature of your mind and you learn to stay present with reality as it actually is you will find your concentration improves greatly. This workshop is an ideal way for you to begin to change the habit patterns of your mind at the deepest level.

Q. I have a certain medical condition, is it safe for me to practice meditation?

A. For most people meditation is entirely safe, if you have been diagnosed with any specific mental illness or are on any prescription medication you may want to seek your doctors advice before attending. Please email me to discuss your particular condition.

Q. I would like to bring my teenage son/daughter is there and age limit for this course?

A. You are very welcome to bring your teenagers to this course if they are interested in learning meditation and have a good command of English. It’s important that you don’t try and force them to come because you think it would be good for them. They have to have their own motivation to learn and attend this course and if this is lacking it’s better for you to wait for this to develop. It may be better to first bring them to a shorter 2 hour meditation class rather than a full day workshop.
